Mr Ken Hall Mr Ken Hall
1970-2010

Mr Ken Hall (pictured left), who is retiring this summer after 40 years' dedicated service to St Edmund's, has been acclaimed as an Honorary Member of The Edmundian Association.

During his time at the College his roles have included being Head of Biology, Assistant Housemaster of Challoner, Housemaster of Poynter and Examinations Officer. He is seen here receiving a framed citation from David Kay, President Emeritus.


Mgr David Norris RIP Requiescant in Pace

Mgr David Joseph Norris (Douglass, Allen Hall & Staff 1936-53) (pictured right), a former Housemaster of Talbot, died on 9 June 2010 at the age of 87. John Kamm (St Hugh's & Challoner 1940-46) died on 16 June 2010 aged 80. Kevin Scully (Talbot 1954-59) died on 28 May 2010 aged 68. Fr Terence Wardle (Douglass & Allen Hall 1937-45) died on 6 July 2010 aged 89. May they rest in peace.


Photograph appeal Appeal for old photographs
The Association is appealing for missing House and sports team photographs to fill gaps in the archives. Please click here to see which House photographs are missing, and click here to see which sports team photographs are being sought. These lists are not exhaustive, and we will shortly be appealing for old CCF photographs. If you are having a clear-out and have come across any Edmundian memorabilia that you no longer want, please do let us know - it might just be something that we are missing! STOP PRESS: We have just received the missing 1955 Talbot House photograph from Stephen Butler (Talbot & Allen Hall 1954-63), and Jim Morris (St Hugh's & Douglass 1956-63) has just unearthed the missing Colts rugby team photograph from 1957-58.

Latest College Life
The latest issue of College Life has just been published. The 24-page colour magazine features details of all the events and activities that took place during the Lent term, at both St Edmund's and St Hugh's, including New Head for St Hugh's, Charlie Smith's funeral, The Sound of Music, Football Highlights, Governors' Profiles and reports from the various school trips. Jocelyn Millard RIP
Squadron Leader Jocelyn Millard RIPSquadron Leader Jocelyn Millard AE KSG, one of our oldest living Edmundians and a heroic figure from the Battle of Britain died at the age of 95 on 10 May 2010. May he rest in peace. He was in Fighter Command from September 1940 until March 1941 with No.1, 242 and 615 Squadrons. No.1 Squadron was formed during the First World War and is still operational, 242 Squadron was commanded by Douglas Bader who was his commanding officer when Millard joined and 615 was the County of Surrey Auxiliary Squadron, known as "Churchill's Own". You are warmly invited to attend the Summer Events taking place at St Edmund's College on Saturday 19th June. The Edmundian Association AGM is taking place at 1.30pm. The afternoon will also include a Charlie Smith Memorial cricket match at 2pm. The afternoon will continue with our Summer Garden Party which will begin at 3pm. We hope to see as many Edmundians and their guests as possible at these events. We hope the combination of events taking place on the day will allow you to get together with friends and family to enjoy a full afternoon on your visit to St Edmund's. Requiescant in pace
With regret we must record the recent deaths of the following OEs. Antony Harrison-Thomas (Talbot 1943-48) died on 14 March 2010 a day after his 80th birthday. Hubert (Bert) Richards (Staff 1949-65) died on 25 March 2010 at the age of 89. May they rest in peace.

Charlie Smith RIP CHARLIE SMITH

Charlie Smith (Staff 1946-2007) died on 6 March 2010 at the age of 80. He was popular with generations of Edmundians throughout his long career at the College of almost 62 years.

May he rest in peace.

A Requiem Mass was celebrated at the College on 22 March 2010. His final journey to the College was by horse-drawn carriage.

Old Edmundians acted as pallbearers, Fr Michael Pinot de Moira preached a moving sermon, Fr Cedric Stanley OE delivered a fitting panegyric, and Charlie was interred in the little cemetery by the Chapel.

On Saturday 15 May 2010 at 11.00am there will be a Memorial Service and reception at the College.

In due course a fund will be set up for those who would like to contribute towards a fitting memorial to Charlie.

London Dinner - 26 February 2010
The Ballroom at The Lansdowne Club This year's Dinner was more than just a reunion, which is why we chose the ballroom at The Lansdowne Club as our venue, to give Edmundians of all generations the opportunity to get together and celebrate John Vaughan Shaw's forty-five year teaching career at St Edmund's. Over 100 Edmundians attended the event, the largest for a London gathering for many years. To mark his outstanding service to the College, John was bestowed with Patronage of the Association. Canon Pat Davies RIPRequiescant in pace
With regret we must record the recent deaths of the following Edmundian clergy: Canon Patrick Davies (Allen Hall 1973-75) (pictured right) died on 16 February 2010 at the age of 71. Fr Ronald Aylward (Allen Hall 1946-50) died on 19 February 2010 at the age of 85. Fr Cathal McGonagle (Allen Hall 1952-54) died on 21 February 2010 at the age of 82. May they rest in peace.
